HELCO’s latest Fast Charger (Level 3 EV charing station) is now open for service.

The station will be officially dedicated at a future date but is now available for use during this ‘soft launch’ period. It is located just west of the KTA Shopping Center parking lot in Waiamea (65-1158 Mamalahoa Hwy, Waimea, HI).

Depending on time of use, there will be a flat fee of $7-8. See screenshot below for pricing details.

Go to plugshare.com (also download their mobile app) to view details of the station, including feedback offered by users. If you get the opportunity to use this or any other charging station on the island, please take a few moments to give an update on plugshare.com (this will help others learn about the status of a station ahead of a visit).

Mahalo to HELCO for helping to enable EV adoption in Hawaii.

  • Great to have a level 3 charger but what about the EVs that can only accept level 2 charging. Can’t they add level 2 charging at that location?

  • Hi, is there a number to call to see if the station is operational at the time? A couple weeks ago I decided to try seeing how far I could go in my Nissan Leaf. I live in Kona and I call the admin office at the Shops in Mauna Lani asking if their level 3 station was operational, they said it was. I then contacted Greenlots to see if they could remotely determine if the station was working. They said it was. I took the chance to drive up there to use it and the station was not working. I made it home with 4% battery to spare. I really want to be able to know if these stations are working before I leave Kona. Is there a reliable solution?
