Home > News > Nissan LEAF Reduction Gear Warranty Repair Experience

Aloha!

This is for our Nissan LEAF owners.

We reported a few weeks ago that our 2011 Nissan LEAF had to have a reduction gear replacement. Fortunately, the repair was covered by our warranty.

What Prompted the Repair

About a year ago, we noticed a ‘clunking’ sensation (barely audible) whenever we accelerated from a stopped position, or when letting off the accelerator at low speed. There were several articles on the web describing similar issues.  We brought one of these articles into the Kamaaina Nissan dealership to help explain the issue. They confirmed that there was a problem and ordered the replacement part from the mainland.  The repair took about 10 hours and they had the car for 2 days. Our LEAF now operates without the dreaded ‘clunk’!

If you have a LEAF, pay attention to the sounds and sensations when driving – especially when taking off or decelerating. It apparently costs “$4000” to do this out of warranty (quite steep!) so take notice.

Thank you, Kamaaina Nissan, for the wonderful service or being available on both sides of the Big Island.
